I have a problem

I can’t finish things!  Well, I can finish single things with single steps.  Hats, shawls.  But, if it requires a second step ~ say, a second item, or needing to be felted ~ I can’t do it!  Here’s my current WIP pile.

What’s in there?  A Jasmine Fingerless Mitt (Rav link) in Wollmeise (that has been partnerless for, oh, about a year now…), a Bamboo Sock Test knit sock in Dream in Color Smooshy that needs a partner, a(n un-)Felted Camera Lens Cap Holder (Rav link) in Mal Worsted, a Full O’ Win Toque (Rav Link) that I cast on today in Knit Picks Wool Of the Andes, a lonely Ballet School Dropout Sockette (Rav Link) in Mal Sock, a single Newfoundland Mitt (Rav Link) in Mal Worsted, a(n un-)Felted Camera Case (Rav Link) in Mal Worsted that I reknit to help with the reworking of the pattern and a … sheesh, I can’t think of any more clever ways to say single… Love You Mom Sock (Rav Link) in Mal Worsted.  I do happen to love both my Moms quite a bit, but neither of them are getting these socks…

I think I need to either learn to knit 2 of things.  Or embrace the Micheal Jackson in me.  And that just sounds dirty, so I’m SO not doing that.

It’s second sock syndrome (SSS), dude. It’s a serious affliction that someone needs to develop a vaccination for.

I too have a lot of wips but I do eventually finish the mates to all the socks. It’s the scarves and shawls that suffer. They don’t get much knitting time. Maybe I like the smaller projects for the instant gratification?!

You can do it! I’m picking up a pair of socks today that hasn’t really been touched since December. If I can finish something, you can finish something.

I know what you mean about “second step syndrome”. I tend to suffer from that too, knitting only one sock, mitten, etc. :)

I have a similar problem. I’ve got a Prickly fingerless mitt that I adore, and only 2 inches of it’s partner made staring at me right now! And one sock. I’m excited to learn toe up two at a time for socks so that I finish them both at the same time :)

A lot of my singletons there actually do have the partners cast on (I try to cast on right away to avoid second sock syndrome, but apparently that doesn’t help me!) with maybe an inch knit…

I really should look into this two at a time thing.

  6. I, too, have a lonely Ballet School Dropout Sockette kicking around somewhere; I like their tininess but I knit mine in fingering weight and now they’re too thick (I made them to go in my ballroom shoes.) Sigh. Maybe I’ll rework the pattern for laceweight someday.

I’ve been thinking I’d like some laceweight socks as well, let me know if you do rework the pattern :)
